Making old look good.

As an event planner you find ways to make certain things work in your favor. You see the value in the little things and you pay close attention to the everyday tasks in life. Im sure you all have a pinterest and have attempted to DIY ideas you have pinned. Well so have i and i will be the first to say that not all my attempts have been successfull. However, there is a certain concoction that i mix up to make refurbishing old furniture easy and painless. Im sure everyone has heard of chalk paint? This is what i use to make the beaten, abused, lonely furniture come back to life.I start by mixing hot water and plaster of paris in a large bowl( i have learned that doing this step first breaks the plaster of paris down easier and has less bubbles) then you take the amount of paint in whatever color you have chosen, and add anywhere from a cup of paint to 1/2 a gallon depending on the size of your project, mix it all up and apply with a soft grained brush or your hands. I have noticed that my hands work the best to massage the paint into the fabric. After your first coat is applied let dry overnight and apply another coat the next day. Repeat these steps until the previous color of the fabric is no longer existant. Once the piece has dried completely apply Finishing wax to the piece. I use one coat and followed the intructions on the can. The results were astonoshing! I have foud my go to fabric paint that never fails me. Hope this helps some of the DIY brides out there... Goodluck and Stay Southern :)
